The Idaho Army National Guard (IDARNG) Conservation Program supports the mission of the Idaho National Guard (IDNG) and Department of Defense (DoD) through sustainable management practices for resources (natural and cultural) on Statewide training lands, with specific emphasis on the Orchard Training Complex (OTC). The OTC is a 171,900-acre training facility located south of Boise, Idaho. The site is Bureau of Land Management (BLM)-managed and Idaho Department of Lands (IDL)-managed lands that is utilized for military training, livestock grazing, and public recreation. Lands within the OTC have been used to serve this nation's defense for more than 70 years. The OTC also falls within the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA), which is protected as one of the densest known nesting populations of raptors in North America.

This presentation provides an overview of the IDARNG's Conservation Program with specific emphasis on the OTC. The background of the IDARNG's Conservation Program will be provided, a discussion of IDARNG projects within the OTC will be presented, and how the IDARNG's Conservation Program supports both the IDNG and DoD's mission by managing training operations in a sustainable manner that complies with the resources of the NCA, and the needs of the region and the nation.
